This is one of my favorite essays that I wanted to share with you all. It's by Jo Ann Beard, and I should say that it's about a shooting before you choose to read it. One of the reasons I think it's such a magnificent essay is because of Beard's ability to talk about death and loss in evocative and resonant terms, something that's very hard to do, I think--it's understandable why we revert to cliches when trying to articulate our thoughts about subject matter like this.
